Yichong SUN (孙艺崇)

README

I'm Yichong. I build robots that work inside the human body.

I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, with the Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center and the Chow Yuk Ho Technology Center for Innovative Medicine. Before that, a PhD in the Faculty of Medicine at CUHK, a master's in mechanical engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology and a bachelor's at Chongqing University.

Most of what I make is magnetic. An endoscope moving through the gut has almost no room for motors, so you drive it with a field generated outside the patient, and you find out where it is by reading the field it sends back.

I work on both halves of that: the hardware that produces and senses the field, and the control that turns it into motion a surgeon can direct. Some of these systems have been tested in vivo in animals, others ex vivo on tissue.

I also teach BMEG 5750, Medical Robotics, as a teaching assistant, and four US patents from this work are pending.

The longer version of all this is on the full site.

CUHK MSc students interested in medical robotics and AI are welcome to email me, and so is anyone else. The work is intelligent magnetic medical robotics: learning-based magnetic localization and actuation, magnetic sensing fused with endoscopic vision, medical simulation, and AI-assisted state understanding and task decision-making. We can talk online.
